on motherhood: stories of mothers

We so often hear about motherhood in abstract terms: about certain milestones, endless expectations, all the beliefs others want us to hold and uphold. But what about the real moments, the nitty gritty as I’m always calling it? Social media is flooded with romanticized “real” moments that are, at their core, created to influence us, to push a specific narrative, or to be a highlight reel—they may serve to inspire us or add to the list of things we should be doing or aren’t doing or things we should feel bad about.

The point to all of this rambling is that stories are powerful. They can evoke something within us, no matter how buried, inspire us, and make us feel less alone. They inform how we see other people and the world, who we become, and how we raise our children. But then again, there are stories that have been left untold, that I so desperately want to hear, maybe even need to hear, especially about motherhood. For many of us, stories of birth, of motherhood continuing past the early years and longer, of motherhood being so hard and messy, of motherhood being so light and joyful, stories of real life motherhood, the seemingly insignificant parts and the big stuff together, aren’t as prevalent as we’d like.

I’m excited to introduce to you a new project from Hello Mama that will do just that: tell mothers’ stories. Most will just dip their toes into the stories of amazing women because that’s what we have time and space for through this vehicle of a blog, but I aim to still capture the multifaceted nature of motherhood. I hope you find them inspiring, enlightening, and maybe even a reflection of your own story on these pages.

In these interviews, you’ll hear from mothers of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences (at least that’s our goal). Some have just entered motherhood, while others have been on the journey for decades. You’ll read about the joys and challenges that come with different stages of parenting—from pregnancy and birth to the toddler years, graduation, and beyond. Some mothers will speak candidly about the hardest parts of motherhood, while others will share their proudest moments and the unexpected surprises.

I invite you to join in as we delve into the lives of real mothers, exploring their triumphs, challenges, and everything in between. By sharing these stories, I hope to create a space where mothers can feel seen, heard, and celebrated and that we’ll recognize the themes that unify us even within our unique experiences of motherhood.

Stay tuned for upcoming posts, where I’ll share our first series of interviews.

Want to get involved?

For mamas and readers: my dream is that these interviews will share a diversity of voices, backgrounds, and experiences but there’s so much similarity in my own personal social circles. I could use your help! Know a mother you find inspiring who might like to share her story or maybe you’re feeling up to it yourself? Let me know who she is and how I can reach her.

For business owners: we could use your help keeping these interviews going. Reach out if you’re interested in sponsoring an upcoming blog post.
